One of the best parts of the day for Mitch and I was getting to watch as Kefelen reunited with some friends that were in the Ethiopia Care Center at the same time as him. One of the first people we saw was the little girl who was his best buddy while he was in the orphanage. They are from the same area in Southern Ethiopia and were able to communicate well, which helped their bond. When they saw each other big hugs were in order, as well as a bunch of ohhing and aahing by the parents, and of course photo snapping. The little girl's older sister was also there to join the fun. Next they ran into a little boy who also lived in the care center with them. Mitch and I referred to him as "smiley boy" while we were in Ethiopia because he has the hugest, cutest, whitest smile ever and he is adorable. We are so glad to see he found a great home with loving parents.
Another great part of the day was getting to learn stories about Kefelen from people who picked up their kids and met him before we did. One mom ran up to me and said that Kefelen was her favorite when she went to pick up her twins because he made everyone laugh. Apparently the nannies told all the kids to sit in their chairs, which were lined up against the wall. Kefelen wanted something on the other side of the room but the nannies told him to stay in his chair. Hmmm, what's a goofy kid to do? Well, according to this mom he kept his butt in the chair and scooted it across the room with a big smile on his face. The nannies laughed too hard to scold and Kefelen got what he wanted without breaking the rules. Another mom told us that Kefelen would run up to her and put out his hands so she would hold him. One day he peed on her hip. Oops. Because we missed 3 1/2 years of his life, even little stories like this help us to know him better.
