Goodbye Grandpa Vernon
Vernon Leroy Martin, 94, of Silver City passed away Monday, May 20th, 2008 at Ft. Bayard Medical Center in his Granddaughter's arms. Vernon was born May 14th, 1914 to Elmer and Hattie Martin in Merrill, Wisconsin, the 8th of 16 children. Vernon was a hard working, intelligent, honest man of great integrity; providing for his family was his first priority. He left the family farm at age 12 and at 16 started working electrical transmission line construction until retiring from L.E. Myers Construction Co. after 48 years of service. After retiring to Silver City he did smaller construction jobs around the area. He loved to fish, travel and tinker with things. He leaves all of us who loved him as better people and with a smile in our hearts for having been loved by him. He is survived by his son, David (& wife Arlene), two grand daughters, Vicki (& partner Tim) and Marci (& husband Bill), 3 grandsons, Bill (& partner Collette, deceased), Mike (& wife Bernie) and Mitch (& wife Jennifer), one great grand daughter, Kristen, two great grandsons Théo and Kefelen, and four sisters. In passing, he joined his wife of 58 years, Florence Inez and his daughter Sharon Louise, eight brothers and three sisters. Rest in peace.
