Packing and packing and bickering and........packing

We have been working diligently to pack each and every item we may possibly need for the trip. In between our stress-induced bickering sessions we've made about 10 trips to Target in the past 3 days, many trips to the grocery store and a trip to the Ethiopian food market. I found myself wandering aimlessly through Cub Foods the other day at 7:30 am trying to figure out what the heck the nugget will want to eat after a 27 hour trip to the states. Will he like waffle sticks or perhaps scrambled eggs? What about bologna? All kids like that, right? I bought dried fruit and bagels and yogurt and soy milk and guava juice and yogurt pretzels and cheerios and goldfish crackers.

Now for the drugs....the recommended packing lists include everything from Cipro antibiotics (to ward off intestinal issues) to scabies cream and lice shampoo (in case of a nugget infestation). We have things for our heads and our sinuses and our minds (jet lag tabs) and our bellies and our backs and for sleeping and for coughing and for sneezing.

We have toilet paper and moist towlettes and beef jerky (a favorite treat for locals) and antibacterial hand cream and passports. We have ipods and video recorders and undies and tshirts and umbrellas. We have rocket balloons for the care center and board books and toothbrushes and towels and a thermometer (oral thank goodness) . We have a mag lite for power outages and all of our official paperwork and money and a travel backgammon game and our Amharic language flash cards. We have a child carrier and pull-ups and Matchbox cars and socks and a first aid kit and a travel guide.

We have all of this and more packed into 3 suitcases, 2 backpacks and 1 duffle bag. Hope the cab has a big trunk.
