Before I Joined Your Family

We spent the weekend with our parents. Jen's parents came up from Sheboygan, WI and Mitch's parents came over from Prior Lake to attend a class at CHSFS. We were glad to have them but the topic was not easy to digest. We learned about attachment disorders, the results of abuse and neglect as well as the grieving process of toddlers who are moved at such a delicate age. We found out that there really is no way to tell how smoothly our experience will go. I have to admit it scared us a little bit. Our parents vowed to give us support and we know that we can do this....but facing the realities makes us nervous. We've agreed to do more research about the topic by asking questions of adoptive parents and by reading more about development and attachment to make the transition as smooth as possible for our little one.
